How to infuse entrepreneurship into your curriculum
It’s becoming more common to offer a major or minor in entrepreneurship – or even a certificate. But not every school offers those paths to student. When campus leadership declares “We need to infuse entrepreneurship into the curriculum,” what are the options?
I’ve heard of accounting and finance classes with activities including local startups and small businesses:
- Calculate the average cost of a cup of coffee at the local coffee shop
- Calculate the customer acquisition cost for the local fitness trainer
- Estimate the life time value of a customer for the subscription box startup
These are all great assignments – and worthy of a next step. For example:
- Calculate the average cost of a cup of coffee at the local coffee shop. Then offer three options to reduce costs.
- Calculate the customer acquisition cost for the local fitness trainer. Then offer three new ways to get new customers that will cost less.
- Estimate the life time value of a customer for the subscription box startup. Then offer three options to improve customer retention.
